Garment Production (design and construction)

Course Description

Garment Production is a two-year programme that will enable students to learn about the different technical aspects of the production of garments. This programme is designed for individuals who are creative and are inclined towards the fashion industry while also possessing the skills and keen eye for understanding the technical aspect of fashion designing. The programme equips students with the appropriate knowledge of the correct techniques and the most ideal machinery to be used in the production of any garment. Course safety is reinforced continually throughout the course sequence along with skills in human regulations. Additionally, Information Technology, Entrepreneurship, Business Ethics, Communication and Occupational Math are integrated throughout the curriculum. Also, the students will complete a four-month Job Training Exercise in year two.

Students will learn all the theoretical as well as practical aspects of the process to includesewing, fabric cutting, garment parts, basic fashion sketches and design, pattern making, free-hand cut style, alterations, press work, fabric design, batik and finishing processes.

Occupational requirements are met through project-based learning combined with the necessary theory and employability skills. Course activities and projects required for successful completion of the programme include ongoing assessment, portfolio development, and final assessments.

N.B Students in this program are eligible to receive industry recognized certification from the Antigua and Barbuda National Training Agency (ABNTA) upon successful completion of the course along with an ABICE TVET Certificate.
